Skyscrapers of a different sort. Day 171.

Growing up in the City of Chicago (OK it was a lovely little neighborhood and not ALL that urban- but we still took the city bus to school), I never really fully appreciated what lay just beyond the suburban sprawl.
Until I headed down to central Illinois for college.
And saw all that rich farmland reach out seemingly for days. 76,000 farms cover more than 28 million acres — nearly 80 percent of the state’s total land area!
Corn, soybeans, wheat.
Barns, cows, hogs.
BIG RED BARNS. I have a love affair with red barns. There is something about them- the older the better.
Being in Chicago- you can sort of forget that Illinois is really an agricultural state.
